The chapel was a small building 34ft.6ins. by 24ft.6ins.
situated at the top right corner of the Aberavon causeway leading from
High St. to the Dinas mountain.
It was one of the landmarks in Glamorgan Nonconformity. Opened in 1821
by the Baptists who stayed there until moving to Ebenezer in 1839.
The Independents used it for a few years, a Welsh Sunday School being
held there in 1847, before transferring to Wern.
Other faiths occupied the building amongst whome were- Bible Christians
[1850]. Primitive Methodists [1851]. Roman Catholics [ 1853-1860]. Wesleyans
[Dec.1861]. and English Baptists in 1877.
Various other organizations made use of the premises. It was finally demolished
in 1961-2 to make way for the new M4. motor way.
At this time the council had to take all the necessary steps to remove
the occupants of the adjoining grave yard to their site in the Goytre.
GRAVEYARD OF CAPEL MORIAH.
THE REMAINS WERE RE-INTERRED AT GOYTRE PRIOR TO THE CHAPEL BEING DEMOLISHED
FOR THE BUILDING OF THE M4 IN 1961.
